Are you becoming the truest version of yourself you can be?

A woman with shoulder-length blonde hair is partially illuminated against a dark background. She is wearing a black top and has a neutral expression. The lighting creates a dramatic effect with shadows on one side of her face.

A lot of people wonder whether they are living within themselves. They simply don’t know if they could be a different, “better” manifestation of who they are. If any of the following signs ring true for you, rest assured that you are becoming the version of yourself that you were always meant to be.

1. When you wake up, you feel cheerful and optimistic.

A man wearing a white t-shirt and grey sweatpants is sitting on a bed, stretching with his arms raised and a content expression on his face. The room is bathed in warm sunlight streaming through sheer white curtains, creating a cozy and serene atmosphere.

Instead of swearing when you wake up because you have another day of drudgery ahead, the day begins with a smile. You have a bright new day full of promise and beauty; one in which you’ll be able to enjoy good food, great conversation, and the opportunity to do great things.

2. You feel like you’re living authentically, rather than being performative.

A smiling man in a light gray sweater leans on the railing of a bridge. The bridge structure is visible behind him, and there is a scenic view with greenery and water in the background. The sky is slightly overcast.

When you look in your closet, you see clothes that reflect your true personality rather than uniforms you feel obligated to wear. Similarly, you feel as though you can be yourself around the people in your life rather than behaving in a way that they expect or prefer.

3. You’re doing work that has purpose, whether it’s paid or volunteer.

A woman with curly hair and a pink sweater smiles as she hands a book to a group of children. The children gather around her eagerly, with one holding a baby dressed in pink. Brightly colored clothes hang in the background, adding a cheerful atmosphere.

The work you do—whether as a career or a volunteer vocation—is something that means a great deal to you. Maybe you’re putting energy towards service to others, animal welfare, environmental protection, or medical research, doing things on a daily basis that are fulfilling and purposeful to you.

4. You have a strong sense of being on the “right path”.

Maybe it feels like everything is falling into place exactly as it’s meant to. You might have given up on any belief in coincidence, because your life seems to be adjusted to keep you on course in a particular direction—which feels absolutely “right” to you in every way.

5. You’re surrounded by good people.

A group of four people, two men and two women, sitting outdoors and laughing together. One woman wears a striped shirt and cardigan, the other has a headband and jacket, one man has long curly hair and tattoos, while the other has short hair and a beard.

When you look around your social circle, you realize that you have some astonishingly good people in your life. Those who drained your energy in the past have moved on to murkier pastures, and now you get to spend your time socializing with great people who enhance your existence.

6. You don’t feel like there’s something missing in your life.

A smiling man with glasses and a gray beard stands with arms crossed in a park. He wears a green polo shirt. The background features trees and a path covered in yellow leaves.

Some people feel like there’s a yawning hole inside them that needs to be filled, but they don’t know what it is that’s missing. In your case, there’s no hole at all: you’re filled to the brim with purpose, goals, and immense appreciation for all the little bits of beauty in your world.

7. You’re comfortable establishing and defending personal boundaries.

A man in a white t-shirt extends his hand toward the camera, palm facing forward, in a stop gesture. The background is softly blurred, emphasizing the hand's detail.

When you feel self-actualized, on a path that fills you with confidence and contentment, you’re much more comfortable protecting your peace. As a result, you’re fine with saying “no” to things that don’t feel right to you, and ensuring that others respect you, your surroundings, and your boundaries accordingly.

8. You’re in a position where you’re able to help or mentor others.

A man and a woman are sitting at a desk, focused on writing and reviewing documents. The woman is wearing glasses, and both have pens in hand. A laptop and notebooks are on the desk, with a plant visible in the background by a window.

One great thing about the feeling of following a personal destiny is the skill you’ll accrue on your journey. You might have amassed a startling amount of knowledge or ability in your chosen field or vocation, and now have the opportunity—and the desire—to teach those skills to others.

9. You find that you generally feel content.

While “happiness” is usually a fleeting feeling, contentment is like a warm pot of soup that’s simmering on a back burner. Those who are stepping into themselves and becoming the people they were meant to be generally feel an overall sense of contentment and fulfillment on a daily basis.

10. Various aspects of your life are aligned with your values.

A woman with curly hair smiles brightly while standing outdoors in sunlight. She is wearing a green shirt, and her hand is raised to her head. The background is blurred with hints of trees and buildings.

There is nothing in your life that you feel obligated to do even though it doesn’t align with your personal values or convictions. Instead, just about everything in your corner of the world is working harmoniously with what you hold most dear at your core.

11. You feel creative.

A person with short hair is painting on a canvas. The artwork appears to be an abstract depiction of a woman, featuring bold lines and vibrant colors. The artist is using a small brush and focusing on the details of the face.

This may seem like a simple thing to many people, but those who aren’t living authentically often have a difficult time being creative. Their energy is focused on surviving more than thriving, so creative endeavors take a back burner. But you, on the other hand, have found an outlet of creativity that brings you joy.

12. You’re looking forward to the future, rather than bracing for it.

A woman with a smile, wearing a white shirt and beige cardigan, stands on a sunny beach with sand and dried grass in the background.

Although you might feel a bit nervous about how the future may unfold, your overall feeling towards it is that of curiosity and excitement, rather than trepidation. No matter what the future holds, you know that you’re strong and brave enough to handle it, and hopefully, it’ll be a great time for all.
